What Is in Noble Dirt
Hydroseeding in Noble happens on some unusual soil. Noble calls itself the Rose Rock Capital of the World because the concentration of barium sulfate in its soil is believed to be higher than anywhere else, forming the reddish rose rocks found around Cleveland County. It is a good reminder that the dirt under a new lawn here has its own character.
Working with red ground
Rose rocks are hard mineral clusters. When we grade a Noble yard, we sometimes turn them up along with sandstone pieces and red sandy soil. We pull rocks out of the top few inches so they do not get in the way of mowing, and we work in topsoil where the ground is thin.
The Canadian River edge
The Canadian River forms Noble's western boundary, across from McClain County. In 1889, the town's founders forded the river to claim the townsite. A suspension toll bridge built across it in 1898 washed out in 1904. River ground floods, and soil on its edges moves easily. Lots near the river need silt fence during work and quick cover after.
Small city, mixed lots
Noble covers about 13.3 square miles and is Cleveland County's third-largest city after Norman and Moore. Jobs here range from in-town yards to rural lots off US 77. We bring the same truck for both and adjust seed and mulch rates to the site.
Timing in Cleveland County
We prefer to seed Bermuda in Noble from late spring into early summer, once the soil is warm. Fall jobs on bare ground usually get a temporary cover and a heavy mulch layer to hold the soil through winter, with permanent seed going down the next spring.
