Seeding on the Open Plains
Hydroseeding in El Reno is done on open, wind-swept ground. The city sits on the 98th meridian about 25 miles west of downtown Oklahoma City, where the land opens toward the plains. It covers about 80.4 square miles, so there is plenty of room for new homes, commercial sites along I-40 and US 81, and acreage lots on the edges.
Wind and new seed
On open ground, a fresh seedbed dries out quickly and loose seed can blow. Hydroseeding helps because the seed is mixed into a wet mulch slurry that sticks to the soil. On exposed lots we bump up the mulch rate and recommend watering within a day of spraying.
South of the river
El Reno grew on the south side of the Canadian River. Reno City started on the north side, about five miles northeast, but moved to El Reno when the railroad chose the south bank. Ground closer to the river is lower and can be sandier, which drains fast and dries fast. We adjust watering advice for those lots.
Storm-rebuilt yards
El Reno has had serious storms. An EF5 tornado struck parts of northwest El Reno on May 24, 2011. On May 31, 2013, a tornado near El Reno set a record width of 2.6 miles. An EF3 hit the south side in 2019. Rebuilt homes often come with scraped, compacted yards that need topsoil and grading before seed.
Commercial sites at the interchange
El Reno sits at the I-40 and US 81 interchange, a natural spot for commercial building. Those sites need silt fence, inlet protection and a fast cover crop or permanent seed to meet sediment control expectations. We handle those for contractors.

El Reno Questions
Will seed blow away on my open El Reno lot?
Hydroseed sticks in a wet mulch slurry. On windy lots we use more mulch and water soon after spraying.
My lot is near the river and sandy. What changes?
Sandy soil drains and dries quickly, so watering needs to be more frequent at first.
Do you work on commercial sites near I-40?
Yes, including silt fence, inlet protection and seeding.
Can you fix a yard that was scraped during a rebuild?
Yes. We add topsoil, grade and then hydroseed.
