Newcastle Builds on Old Farmland

Hydroseeding in Newcastle follows the subdivisions. The town's history says it plainly: cotton, ranching and dairy once carried the local economy, and they declined as subdivisions and commercial development took over former agricultural land. Newcastle is now the largest incorporated town in McClain County and covers about 61 square miles.

The river on the northeast edge

The Canadian River forms Newcastle's northeastern boundary. For most of its length the Canadian is slow, with red mud flats and quicksand, but it can carry a lot of water after heavy rain. Before 1923, farmers forded it at May Avenue with horses and wagons on their way to market in Oklahoma City. Land near the river is low and sandy in places, and it needs careful sediment control during construction.

Growth along I-44

Until around 1960, Newcastle was little more than a post office and school district. By the mid-1970s, Oklahoma City had spread past SW 74th Street along the Interstate 44 corridor, and that pushed growth into Newcastle. New neighborhoods keep filling in, which means bare lots, raw slopes and plenty of soil looking for a way downhill.

Builder work

For builders we offer silt fence installation, inlet protection, construction-site hydroseeding and final lawn seeding. Covering finished lots quickly keeps mud off new streets and out of drainage that heads for the river.

Homeowner work

For homeowners, most calls are for new lawn installation on a just-finished house, yard grading where water runs the wrong way, and lawn repair on yards that came with thin builder grass.

We work in every part of Newcastle, including the river side, the I-44 corridor and the areas near Norman. Get a free estimate or call (405) 529-7119.

Newcastle Questions

My Newcastle lot is sandy. Will hydroseed hold?

Yes, with a good mulch layer and steady watering. Sandy soil dries fast, so the first weeks matter most.

Do lots near the Canadian River need extra erosion control?

Low ground near the river should have silt fence during construction and quick cover after grading.

Can you seed a builder-grade yard that never filled in?

Yes. We loosen, topdress and overseed thin builder lawns.

Do you work near the Norman side of Newcastle?

Yes, throughout the city limits.
